Spirit Airlines Adds DFW ORD flights

Spirit Airlines today announced that it will be adding fights from DFW International Airport to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Spirit’s new service to ORD will consist of two flights a day, plus a third daily flight added on a seasonal basis.

To celebrate, Spirit is offering $9 introductory fares* (each way based on round trip purchase) available today and tomorrow only at www.spirit.com.

"We commend Spirit Airlines for substantially increasing its U.S. travel destinations from O'Hare International Airport," said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. "This added service to the Chicago market reflects the steady increase in air travel demand and is an important part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's vision to bolster Chicago's leading position in the global aviation system."

"Chicago is Spirit's fourth destination from Boston Logan International Airport and their growth in flying here increases the choices customers have," said Ed Freni, Director of Aviation at Massport. "This is great news for Logan, because when airlines compete, consumers - whether they are traveling for business or leisure - win."

"We are extremely pleased to see Spirit Airlines add service from DFW to ORD, in addition to its service to Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas," said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW International Airport. "It's great to see that Spirit sees an opportunity for growth and competition here at DFW, which will benefit our passengers with even more travel options and competitive fares."

Just last month, Spirit Airlines launched twice-daily nonstop service from Dallas/Fort Worth to Fort Lauderdale and to Las Vegas. The total economic impact of all of Spirit’s new flights will be worth well over $150 million annually into the Dallas-Fort Worth economy, in the form of new visitors and spending with local businesses.

With the Spirit announcement, DFW Airport maintains its strong momentum in adding new air service during fiscal year 2011. In addition to Spirit, the Airport has seen the arrival of Qantas Airways and Virgin America as new carriers.
