1 Malaysia Paper Plane Fun Contest 2010 by CWorks Systems Berhad Draws More than 500 Participants

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Vocus) March 23, 2010

CWorks Systems &39; first 1 Malaysia Paper Plane Fun Contest 2010 held on March 7, 2010 was a tremendous success. More than 500 students from universities and polytechnic institutes across Malaysia piled into the crowded indoor sports arena, Dewan Pusat Sukan, University Putra of Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor, to compete for prizes in the first-ever Malaysian paper plane flying contest. The goal: to determine which team of students could build and fly the most aerodynamic paper airplane. Students consisting of 3 members each, designed, collaborated, folded, creased, and then launched paper airplanes made from 8x11.5 inch recycled paper; measurements were then taken to determine which paper airplanes that had the longest times of flight.

CWorks Systems hosted this inaugural event as a method for bringing students together in the spirit of 1 Malaysia and as a portal for learning more about science and math. “We took a chance that students would be interested in this and were overwhelmed by the response,commented stated Abdul Rani Achmed, CEO and co-founder of CWorks Systems. “Our students are our future and if we can bring students together and pique their attention in science and/or math through their participation in this contest, then we have accomplished our goals.

This year&39;s first place winner was the multi-ethnic team, Kumpulan-GengKey, from the School of Architecture, Polytechnic Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan; its Malay and Chinese members included Bobby Michael, Mohd Syafiq, and Cheng Hui Ling. As First

Place Champions of this contest, CWorks Systems awarded them three (3) round-trip airline tickets to Beijing (Tian Jin), China plus two 1-year subscriptions CWorks&39; CMMS product called Careworks to their university. Careworks by CWorks provides internet accessed, on-demand facility management software system for managers. First runner up was S.A.S. Bersaudara from the School of Applied Science, Universtiy Technology Petronas, Perak. Members included Shahmi Bin Sulaiman, Savyid Haziq Bin Hassmore, and Muhammad Ameer Bin Zaaba. As second place winners, CWorks awarded them three (3) round-trip airline tickets to Bandung, Indonesia plus two 1-year subscriptions of CareWorks to their university. Second runner-ups were Gold Crew.com, from the Department of Science, Mathematics and Computer, Polytechnic Sultan Azlan Shah, Behrang, Perak. Its members included Muhd Ibnul Qaiyim Amrullah Bin Arshad, Airil Idzman B. Roslee, and Muhammad Syafiq Bin Jaafar. This team won three (3) round-trip tickets to Langkawi Island, Kedah plus two 1-year subscriptions of CareWorks to their university.

The contest served numerous purposes. First, it was supported by the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to promote the fun in learning science, math, and technology at higher educational institutions. Second, starting with the singing of the National Anthem Negaraku at the start of the contest, the 1 Malaysia Paper Plane Fun Contest 2010 embodied the spirit of 1 Malaysia, and many teams consisted of students from diverse ethnicity Malay, Chinese&Indian. Finally, the contest emphasized green and conservation and all paper airplanes were made out of recycled paper.

CWorks Systems plans to hold this unique competition on a different campus each year to strengthen its goal of promoting unity among students. In addition, more categories for competition will be added and improvements to the competition&39;s rules and judging are envisioned for the 2011 competition.
