SAS steps up capacity on intercontinental services

In its upcoming winter programme for 2010, SAS will bring an additional aircraft into operation on a number of its intercontinental services to North America and Asia, increasing the number of frequencies on the services from Copenhagen to New York, Chicago, Bangkok and Dubai as well as the service between Stockholm and New York. More specifically, SAS is bringing back into active service one of the two Airbus 340s seating 245 passengers that were taken out of operation when the “Core SAS programme was launched.

“We have seen growing demand in both the United States and Asia and, in May alone, passenger numbers on our international services rose by 10.9%. The increase has made us add additional frequencies to a number of our intercontinental services, said John Dueholm, Danish Deputy CEO of SAS.

SAS has had full flights on its intercontinental services recently, and the additional capacity will help raise the quality of its intercontinental product offering.

“In the competition with the other major network carriers, it is important for SAS to offer its customers daily frequencies to the biggest intercontinental destinations. It is therefore a positive sign that SAS is increasing the number of its intercontinental flights, said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales for Copenhagen Airport who notes that the additional intercontinental frequencies will also strengthen Copenhagen Airport’s position as a northern European hub.
