Cincinnati Airport refurbish Concourse A Terminal 3

The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport plans to upgrade facilities at Concourse A. The move is designed to make the region's airport more efficient and competitive, providing a better experience for passengers and airline partners.

Concourse A will be refurbished and reopen by summer 2012. Carriers that currently operate in Terminal 2 — Air Canada, American, Continental, US Airways and United Airlines — will move to Concourse A once renovations are completed.

Delta Air Lines will continue to operate in Concourse B in Terminal 3.

Passenger ticketing, baggage and security will be available in Terminal 3 to serve Concourse A passengers safely and efficiently. Passengers will access Concourse A via the tunnel and trains currently used for Concourse B passengers.

This project is part of our overall plan to position Cincinnati Airport for future growth. We continue to explore all options to grow business at CVG and keep our region's airport competitive as we move forward

The total cost of the project, inclusive of reactivating Concourse A, improvements to the west-side ticketing area, and enhancements to the connector tunnel, is estimated at $31 million. CVG's signatory airlines approved the plan prior to today's Board meeting, per the Use and Lease agreement the airport has with its primary carriers.

As a result of the agreement to revitalize Concourse A, Delta is relieved of some of its financial obligation for facilities it no longer needs, an objective Delta sought. At the same time, the move to Concourse A gives other carriers at CVG updated facilities to remain competitive and room for growth.

The airport will continue to assess facility needs moving forward as part of its ongoing Master Plan study. Initial estimates indicate refurbishing Terminals 1 and 2 would cost approximately $27 million and would not provide the flexibility and viability of Concourse A.

“Revitalizing Concourse A makes the most sense for all of our airline partners - and is in the best interest of our passengers,” Mr. Mok added.
