"We're happy to provide low-cost service to one of America's great vacation destinations," Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines' senior director of network planning, said during a ceremony before Thursday's flight. "Instead of an eight-hour drive, we can get you to Myrtle Beach in one hour and 15 minutes."
Spirit, which is billed as an "ultra low-cost carrier," offers passengers the "a-la-carte" option by allowing them to pay only for the services they want, like checked baggage, carry-on baggage and in-flight beverages.
According to the airline's website, carry-on luggage can cost $20-$45.
Personal items that are small enough to fit under the passenger's seat are free, but a charge is imposed for items larger than 16 inches by 14 inches by 12 inches. Those items must also be placed in an overhead compartment
